‘Seeking News from Nowhere’ has be announced as the first solo exhibition of works by British artist Benjamin Deakin in recent years. The artist whose practice explores the way in which different cultures interact with their native landscapes and how certain places take on cultural associations as well as political and economic significance references the novel ‘News from Nowhere’ by the nineteenth century English architect, poet and writer William Morris.
The exhibition explores the notion that the search for a utopian environment is possibly a dystopian one in itself. Deakin uses the deconstruction and reconstruction of environments to alter our perception of depth within a space on this quest.
Deakin who lives and works in London gained an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2006.
‘Seeking News from Nowhere’ opens on 23rd of March 2018 and runs until 21 April 2018 with private view on the 22nd March 2018 from 6.30pm.
